The GCC Council has approved a new 15-point Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) action plan to provide greater focus, authority and structure in the GCC’s future EDI activity.

Responsibility for implementing the plan will be undertaken by a new EDI Working Group, led by GCC Council member Keith Richards.

The new plan will continue the work already undertaken by the GCC, ensuring the profession is as diverse and inclusive as possible and provides equal opportunities for all chiropractors, and the patients that its serve.

Key points to the plan
  • Reviewing all GCC functions and processes to identify and address any possible equality issues.
  • Reviewing and updating GCC EDI guidance.
  • Conducting a ‘defining EDI’ consultation, helping the Working Group to establish baseline concerns and knowledge, and steer required actions.
  • Developing an EDI data collection policy, recognising Equality Act 2010 and GDPR requirements, rules and definitions.
  • Conducting EDI patient/public research to identify any equality, diversity and inclusion issues within the profession.

The action plan has been developed on the principles of reasoned activity, ie. helping the GCC to:

  • understand and support the principles of EDI
  • share with one voice its knowledge and commitment to EDI
  • demonstrate its commitment to, and respect of, EDI

Terms of Reference will soon be published followed by recruitment of registrants and lay members to the Working Group.
