The General Chiropractic Council is looking for a new Chair, following the decision by Mary Chapman to stand down at the end of 2023.

This is a high-profile, influential role and your personal credibility, diplomacy, ideas and ability to lead the development of our next phase of our strategy will be central to your work with us.

The GCC has asked Gatenby Sanderson to assist in the recruitment to this role, and all enquiries concerning the role should be directed to them via the microsite.

The General Chiropractic Council (GCC) is an independent statutory body established by Parliament to regulate the 3,600 chiropractors in the United Kingdom. We are one of ten healthcare regulators, with our activities scrutinised by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). The PSA has just reported that the GCC has met all 18 of their standards of good regulation.

The GCC sets the standards for chiropractors and education providers to meet. We regulate and develop the profession, protecting patients and the public. The context is a health system under pressure, an increasingly respected profession playing eager to do more to support patients and the system, and the pace of reform of the professional regulatory landscape. Our 2022-2024 strategy reflects these challenges and focuses on making the right impact in the right way, delivering on our vision to be a respected regulator of a trusted profession.

This role will be central to leading the development of our next phase of our strategy. Your demonstrable board level leadership and chairing skills and ability to motivate and lead a high-performing Council, will inspire and command confidence with our key stakeholders, including patients and chiropractic professional groups, the governments and administrations across the United Kingdom and the wider health and social care regulation community.

This is a unique appointment, offering the opportunity to influence the future of healthcare regulation in the UK. If you can demonstrate the competencies and skills required, regardless of background, please do apply. We invite applications from both chiropractors and lay candidates. The time commitment and remuneration for the Chair is expected to be six to seven days per month and £27,000 per year.
