Chiropractors who use X-rays or MRI scans - whether you take them yourself "in-house" or refer to a private provider - need to remain up to date with the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations commonly referred to as IR(ME)R.
The guidance for imaging providers from the Care Quality Commission was recently updated (23 April 2023), and there are many safety concerns (for both patient and practictioner) to take into account when using imaging equipment.
The simplest way to stay up-to-date is to complete the IRMER training through Health Education England’s e-LFH (electronic learning for health) platform, though this is usually limited to NHS staff. However the Royal College of Chiropractors has arranged access for all chiropractors to the relevant "e-IRMER" and "MRI Safety for Referrers" learning modules. This high-quality training is provided free of charge to RCC members. Non-members can also access the training through the RCC for £115.
Find out more on the RCC website, and don't forget that IRMER modules can be logged towards your annual Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
